Rules & Regulations of Team competitions
(All participants are requested to read these rules & regulations and
other matters carefully. Please cascade copies to your members).

1. Each country/area may despatch unlimited number of teams (both mens & ladies).

2. Draws will be conducted on 21st Feb, Saturday afternoon. Please arrange your delegation representative to attend the Drawing.

3. All matches shall be conducted following “The Regulations of Kendo Shiai & Shinpan of IKF” revised on 23rd March, 2000 and thereafter.

4. Ladies teams
Each team will comprise 5 members and maximum of 2 substitutes. Minimum of 3 members will be accepted. All matches will be at 3 minutes duration and each match will be played by “3 Bon-Shobu”. Ladies may join in both ladies’ and men’s events. (in the case of ladies joining in men’s events, duration of match will be 5 minutes). However, we ask you to consider the safety of your female members in the case they join the men’s event as well. As they may come across very strong and huge male competitors. In the case your team will comprise less than 5 members, you may request the Association to invite local members or members from other countries to join your team.

5. MenR17;s teams
Each team will comprise 5 members and maximum of 2 substitutes. Minimum of 3 members will be accepted. However, we do not accept men to join in the ladies team. All matches at 5 minutes duration and each match will be played by “3 Bon-Shobu”. In the case your team will comprise less than 5 members, you may invite members from other countries to join your team.

6. The number of the registered competitors for each team (both men’s & ladies’) shall be up to 7 (maximum).

7. Each team must submit its order list on 21st Feb Saturday for the preliminary heats on Sunday 22nd morning.

8. In the preceding matches after the preliminary heats, team members and their order may be changed freely but only among the registered competitors (max. 7) at the time they submit their order list on 21st Saturday.

9. Each team MUST submit its order list (only if there are changes) in each match to the presiding referee (Shinpan-shunin) at the start of the matches before the team will play (i.e. if your team will play in the 2nd match and if you wish to make change of order lists or team members, you must submit the order lists immediately at the start of the 1st match)

If the presiding referee (Shinpan-shunin) do not receive order list for the preceding match of your team, we would assume your team order list will be same as that of the previous match. Please cross check the order list on the scoreboard and if you see any mistake please inform the presiding referee (Shinpan-shunin) immediately.

10. Shinai check – to be carried out on 21st Feb, Saturday afternoon. Players please bring the shinai that he/she will be using on the 22nd for check.

Weight of shinai : Ladies (440grams) Men (510grams)

Diameter of the Sakigawa : Ladies (25mm & above) Men (26mm & above)

Sakigawa length : 50mm & above.

11. Volunteer referees
We would need as many volunteer referees as possible from the participating delegations who are holders of 6-Dan and above in Kendo.

12. Trophies and medals will be given to the winners, 2nd runner-up and Two 3rd places in both men’s & ladies’. Referees and Shinpan-shunin from each court will nominate one member from each team who played in the same court for the Fighting Spirits Award.

13. Lunch boxes will be provided by the Association on both 21st and 22nd Feb, Sat & Sun. Our helpers will arrange total number of lunch boxes as per your namelists and will handed over to your delegation.

14. There will be NO entry fees to all overseas players. For local players an entry fees of HKD100.00 is chargeable.

15. Method of matches to be announced on 21st Saturday afternoon. Methods of matches will be same to that applied in the World Kendo Championships.


16. Method of Representative match (both men’s & ladies’)
A play-off between the representatives of the teams will be carried out by “IPPON-SHOBU” and shall be continued until a winner is determined.

17. The competitors must insure themselves against accident. A special first-aid team will be stationed on both 21st and 22nd during the Tournament.

18. Method of matches – all preliminary heats will be played as League match (League sen); thereafter Tournament match (Tournament sen) will be adopted.

19. Deadline of application : 23rd Dec 2003
We would appreciate if you could send your entries (number of teams both men’s and ladies’) on or before 23rd Dec Wednesday for our preparation work and for hotel reservation as well. For your information, the Lunar Chinese New Year will fall on 22nd – 24th Jan, 2004.

21. Welcome Party
Upon submission of your entries, please include how many members will attend the Welcome Party. Charges will be at HKD320.00/head (around Yen4500 or USD42)

20th February (Friday)

Keiko at 7:30pm - 10:30pm at Gym I,
2nd Floor, Queen Elizabeth Stadium

6:50pm - 7:00pm
1st chartered bus 50-seaters (City Garden - Stadium) departs at 7:00pm


8:30pm - 8:40pm
2nd chartered bus 50-seaters (City Garden - Stadium) departs at 8:40pm

Shower facilities available at the Stadium, after keiko Light meal will be served at a nearby restaurant.

There is no return chartered bus from the Stadium to City Garden Hotel. Taxi will cost around HKD60.00 Including luggage charges and takes about 10 mins.

Since dojo is not spacious enough to accommodate. Everyone to enjoy keiko, we would suggest some of You will come 1st session and finish by 9:00pm.

Yamada Yoshio san will take to a nearby restaurant for light meal and BEER On HKKA's account.

2nd keiko session will start around 9:00pm - 10:30pm our President will take you to the same restaurant at around 11:00pm.


21st February (Saturday)

No complimentary breakfast will be served on this day. Please arrange your own breakfast.

7:00am - 7:15am
1st chartered bus departs for Hong Kong Park at 7:15am for those who will take the dan exam and to give the support.


1:00pm - 1:15pm
2nd chartered bus will depart City Garden Hotel to HK Park at 1:15pm. Our helpers wearing name tag will be waiting at the hotel lobby.

Lunch box - will be provided ONLY to all dan applicants and those who will take the first bus.

For those taking the 2nd bus to HK Park please arrange your own lunch as the referee seminar will start soon at 2:00pm.

Start of Dan seminar hosted by Asano sensei.

Dan examination (Jitsugi, Kendo Kata and written test)

Referee Seminar. We will need each delegation to assign a few players to do shiai keiko during the referee seminar.

Godou keiko first 25 mins all 6-Dan and above sensei will be motodachi, each keiko duration time is 2 mins.

Last 20 mins 6-Dan and above sensei will have their own keiko whilst 5-Dan and below will form Separate group.
