6th Hong Kong Asian (Regional) Invitational Kendo Tournament

18th-19th Feb, 2006 Sat & Sun

Hong Kong Park Indoor Games Hall

Admiralty, Hong Kong

With the support of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department

Rules & Regulations of Team competitions
(All participants are requested to read these rules & regulations and
other matters carefully. Please cascade copies to your members).

Each country/area may despatch unlimited number of teams (both mens & ladies) for Sunday’s team events. However, if the Association has received more entries than we have anticipated by 25th January, we may have to turn down those late entries in order that we can complete all the matches by Sunday 19th Feb.

Draws will be conducted on 18th Feb, saturday afternoon. Please arrange your delegation representative to attend the Drawing.

All matches shall be conducted following “The Regulations of Kendo Shiai & Shinpan of IKF” revised on 23rd March, 2000 and thereafter.

Ladies teams
Each team will comprise 5 members and maximum of 2 substitutes. Minimum of 3 members will be accepted. All matches will be at 3 minutes duration and each match will be played by “3 Bon-Shobu”. Ladies may join in both ladies’ and men’s events. (in the case of ladies joining in men’s events, duration of match will be 5 minutes). However, we ask you to consider the safety of your female members in the case they join the men’s event as well. As they may come across very strong and huge male competitors. In the case your team will comprise less than 5 members, you may request the Association to invite local members or members from other countries to join your team.

Men’s teams
Each team will comprise 5 members and maximum of 2 substitutes. Minimum of 3 members will be accepted. However, we do not accept men to join in the ladies team. All matches at 5 minutes duration and each match will be played by “3 Bon-Shobu”. In the case your team will comprise less than 5 members, you may invite members from other countries to join your team.

The number of the registered competitors including substitutes for each team (both men’s & ladies’) shall be up to 7 (maximum).

Each team must submit its order list on 18th Feb Saturday after the draws for the preliminary heats on 19th Feb sunday morning.

In the preceding matches AFTER the preliminary heats, team members and their order may be changed freely but only among the registered competitors (max. 7) at the time they submit their order list on 18th Feb.

Each team MUST submit its order list (only if there are changes) in each match to the presiding referee (Shinpan-shunin) at the start of the matches before the team will play (i.e. if your team will play in the 2nd match and if you wish to make change of order lists or team members, you must submit the order lists immediately at the start of the 1st match)

If the presiding referee (Shinpan-shunin) do not receive order list for the preceding match of your team, we would assume your team order list will be same as that of the previous match. Please cross check the order list on the scoreboard and if you see any mistake please inform the presiding referee (Shinpan-shunin) immediately.

Shinai check – to be carried out on 18th Saturday afternoon. Players please bring the shinai for check.

Weight of shinai : Ladies (440grams) Men (510grams)

Diameter of the Sakigawa : Ladies (25mm & above) Men (26mm & above)

Sakigawa length : 50mm & above.

11. Volunteer referees

We would need as many volunteer referees as possible from the participating delegations who are holders of 5-Dan and above in Kendo for the 2Dan & Below event and team events on sat & sun.

Trophies and medals will be given to the winners, 2nd runner-up and Two 3rd places in both men’s & ladies’ events & 2Dan & below event. Referees and Shinpan-shunin from each court will nominate one member from each team who played in the same court for the Fighting Spirits Award.

Lunch boxes will be provided by the Association on both 18th & 19th, Sat & Sun for players joining that event (e.g. lunch boxes will be provided only to players joining the 2Dan & below event on sat). Our helpers will arrange total number of lunch boxes as per your namelists and will hand over to your delegation. For participants in dan examination ONLY, please arrange your own lunch.
An entry fee of HKD100.00 or its equivalent is chargeable to all overseas & local players per event. If a female player will take part in the 2Dan & below event on sat and in both men’s and ladies’ team events on sun, she will have to pay a total of HKD300.00 for entry fee of 3 events. Participants in Dan examination needs to pay only the respective Dan application fee.

Method of matches to be announced on 18th saturday afternoon. Methods of matches will be same to that applied in the World Kendo Championships.

Method of Representative match (both men’s & ladies’)
A play-off between the representatives of the teams will be carried out by “IPPON-SHOBU” and shall be continued until a winner is determined.

All competitors must insure themselves against accident prior to joining the Tournament. A special first-aid team will be stationed on both 18th & 19th during the Tournament.

If any country or area is sending only 4 members to compete in the 5-persons team events, the sequences should consist of Senpo, Chuken, Fukusho and Taisho (1,3,4,5) only.

2-Dan & below team event

This event was first introduced in 2005 which will take place on 18th Feb Saturday around 1:00pm after the dan examination. Hopefully such new proposal will enable the lower dan participants to find this event more enjoyable and competitive. However, there are certain rules to observe :

-each country or area to send maximum of 3 teams;

-each team 3 registered players (ladies can also join) and 1 substitute;

(in the case there are only 2 members to form a team , the sequence would

be SENPO & TAISHO; and there is another alternative that HKKA may arrange

a local player to join the team upon request;

-must be holder of 2-dan and below;

-must hold nationality of that country (foreigners other than locals of that country

are not eligible to join);

-shiai duration = 3 minutes;

-these members can also join the Sunday’s team events;

-All matches under this category would be completed on 18th Feb Saturday afternoon;

-each team has only 1 time shiai in the preliminary heats;

i.e. if a team loses, that team cannot proceed to the 2nd round;

-in order to save time and to make sure all matches under this category would be completed by saturday afternoon, order lists (position of senpo, chuken, taisho) CANNOT BE CHANGED once they are decided.

22.Dan examination (1-Dan to 4-Dan)

Dan examination will take place on 18th Feb saturday morning at 9:00pm at the Hong Kong Park. Deadline of application on 25th January, 2006

Questionaires will be sent by email to respective Kendo Renmei/Club next week.

Above subject to changes with further notice by the HKKA.
